A MovieGainz Review of the entire Jurassic Park franchise

Who doesn’t love dinosaurs! this is Moviegainz review of the entire Jurassic Park franchise.

Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park

Stomping into cinemas 27 years ago ‘Jurassic Park’ is still the fun, visually appealing adventure that manages to capture the essence of your childhood nostalgia.

Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum deliver iconic performances and manage to gel well together in the scenes they share. However like the rest of the films in the franchise the child actors are the weaker links of this movie.

‘Jurassic Park’s’ iconic scenes are still just as chilling and tense as the first viewing, the build up to the T-Rex reveal is the perfect way to introduce the king of the dinosaurs to the viewers. Leaving the Velociraptor appearance for the last 20min was a great choice after being teased throughout the movie as one of the fastest and smartest dinosaurs on the island.

What can we say about the visuals that hasn’t already been said, It’s fantastic! 27 years later and it still holds up to this day. The use of practical effects and animatronics really helps show the realism of the dinosaurs. Let’s not forget about the sound design and the brilliant score. John Williams really outdid himself here, the first notes of the main theme is enough to bring a wave of nostalgia.

After spending two hours on Islar Nublar, we have to thank Steven Speilberg for “welcoming us to Jurassic Park” and delivering a timeless classic which has now become a phenomenon in pop culture.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park

The Lost World: Jurassic Park

Trying to capitalise on the magic that was Jurassic Park, “The Lost World” tries its best to follow its predecessor but ultimately fails due to the sub-par performances and the lackluster twists.

‘The Lost World’ spends its time on this newly discovered island making sure the characters conveniently escape the predicaments they are presented with and introducing us to an organization that becomes an unwanted villain with the viewers. The argument can be made that the better part of this film is the King Kong inspired rampage of the T-Rex roaming through San Diego causing all sorts of havoc and mayhem.

The saving grace for ‘The Lost World’ is undoubtedly its jaw dropping visual effects where the use of practical effects remain king over CGI dinosaurs, and the return of Jeff Goldblum as the iconic Dr Ian Malcolm and single handedly carries this movie with his wit and sarcasm as he outshines the other cast members.

Sadly ‘The Lost World’ now becomes part of the “Unwanted Sequal Club” as it fails to match the heights of the original and is probably best if this world was never found.

Jurassic Park III

Jurassic Park III

“Thats one big pile of shit” – Ian Malcolm (Jurassic Park). The perfect quote to describe the atrocity that is ‘Jurassic Park III’.

It all started with the horrible and cringeworthy dream sequence (talking velociraptor…really?) and then the dumb decision to have the Spinosauraus defeat the fan favourite T-Rex is just mindboggling!

The characters aren’t exactly the brightest bunch of humans also, from walking around the island yelling to stealing raptor eggs is amazing how they even survived.

The visual effects as good as they are still can’t redeem ‘Jurassic Park III’ from being a forgettable film, it just makes you wish that they stopped making movies after the original.

Hope you enjoyed our review of the entire Jurassic Park franchise.
