Box Office Forecast: Box Office Predictions for 2023

Dune: Part Two, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Fast X, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and a huge amount of other films are on the way for 2023, here are our box office predictions for 2023.

It felt like the movie gods were giving us a special line-up for 2022 but reality kicked in and the delays started to come. It is being forecasted that there will be a lower volume of theatrical releases through 2023 and 2024 – so the box office industry will likely remain below pre-pandemic levels until, at least, 2025. Every year, I make predictions right before the year comes into place (My 2022 Box Office Predictions) and I love to reflect to see how accurate I was. Granted, there are way more affecting factors that no one can foresee but who knew Top Gun: Maverick would do as well as it did!! Overall, I am happy with my predictions – I got fairly close on some (Jurassic World: Dominion, Fantastic Beasts 3, & Doctor Strange 2) and way off on others (Top Gun: Maverick, Thor: Love and Thunder and Lightyear).

There is so much to look forward to for 2023 whether that is our first introduction to Kang the Conqueror in the Ant-Man sequel, Timothee Chalamet as Willy Wonka, the final Guardians of the Galaxy film or the final appearance for Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. From a box office perspective, there are some great stories to look out for. Barbie vs Oppenheimer? Can the MCU get another billion dollar film in 2023? Who will take the box office crown for the year? This year feels like it is completely wide-open.

I will be breaking down my predictions throughout a series of posts as we lead up to the 2023 film slate and provide an in-depth prediction closer to each films release date. Stay tuned for those!

You can check out my post that I did on what film would hit a billion first following the pandemic: https://moviegainz.com/2021/03/17/the-future-of-the-box-office-what-will-be-the-next-film-to-make-1-billion/ (I stick to Avatar: The Way of Water making $2 billion – watch and see).

Who will take the box office crown for the year? It’s a completely wide-open year. Our winner? Aquaman and the Last Kingdom.
