Fancast: The Best Actors to Play Albus Dumbledore

Now before we get to this article and fancast series I would like to make this abundantly clear. We here at MovieGainz do not support this decision of rebooting Harry Potter as a TV series or rebooting it at all!!! However, this is beyond our control so all we can to is at least try and make a fun spin on this and offer up some unthought-of suggestions to portray these characters in the franchise.

So first up is the headmaster himself, Albus Dumbledore. The grand wizard himself is yet to be cast and we all know that he is an essential part of not just the franchise but Harry Potter’s life and character development, so let’s get into our fancast for Albus Dumbledore.

Geoffrey Rush

Most known for his role as Captain Barbossa in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Geoffrey Rush is the ideal candidate to portray Albus Dumbledore in the reboot series of Harry Potter. Like most actors on the list, he is the right age to portray Dumbledore but he has the right charm to knock it out of the park. From Pirate to Wizard is a great accomplishment if you ask me.

Bill Nighy

Having already played a role in the best Harry Potter franchise as Rufus Scrimgeour in Deathly Hallows Part 1 and also Davey Jones in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Bill Nighy is also a worth contented to portray Dumbledore. Bill Nighy most certainly has the acting prowess to pull off this character however I do believe there are better options out there to portray this iconic character.

Michael Caine

Whenever someone wants an old guy to play an old guy character, Michael Caine is always on the top of that list. His role as Alfred Pennyworth in The Dark Knight series is a great example as to why he would make a fitting Dumbledore, with his sincereness and wisdom, however, like with most of the actors on this list that are about to come up, this role and basically a seven-year commitment might be too much at his age.

Mark Rylance

Mark Rylance is an unconventional choice to portray Albus Dumbledore, as the majority of his films see him portray an awkward outsider type of character such as his role in Ready Player One and Don’t Look Up. however, this role could be just what he needs to break from that typical casting role and showcase a more wiser and serious side to himself and his acting abilities.

Ian McKellen

Now how fitting will this be for Ian McKellen’s fantastic filmography? First portraying a wizard called Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and imagine him portraying ANOTHER wizard in Harry Potter, but not any ol wizards, the wizard in Albus Dumbledore. If The Lord of the Rings is anything to go by we 100% know that he will nail this role and while he might bring some of his Gandalfness to the role, he will also be able to bring a new take to the character something we haven’t seen before in the Harry Potter movie franchise.

Anthony Hopkins

Anthony Hopkins already has a stellar career where he has portrayed iconic characters such as Odin and Hannibal Lecter. So why not add another iconic character to his resume where he can portray Albus Dumbledore. Hopkins has the charisma, wisdom, and also that captivating voice to portray Dumbledore which could live in the memories of the newer generation of viewers for this franchise.

Guess we will wait and find out who the new actor will be to portray Albus Dumbledore in the HBO Max Harry Potter series. our fancast series does not stop here, we will be fancasting all of the major adult roles in the Harry Potter franchise.
