Fancasts: The Best Actors to Portray Severus Snape

The great Alan Rickman will always be irreplaceable as Professor Snape, he was literally hand-picked by J.K Rowling to portray this character. However, like every other character in this franchise, the role will ultimately be recasted. No one on this fancasts list will live up to the heights of Alan Rickman, but we believe each actor can do the role justice. So here is our fancasts list for Severus Snape.

Adam Driver

I have seen fancasts around where people would like to see Adam Driver portray a young Snape in his Hogwarts days. So why not have him play the role during Harry Potter’s school years? Driver most certainly has the look and talent to portray this mysterious character, and he has that chilling voice that sends chills down your spine just like Snape should. Given Adam Driver’s impressive body of work, it’s possible that he could bring a new and intriguing interpretation to the character if given the chance.

Keanu Reeves

The internet’s favourite son, Keanu Reeves, is most certainly an interesting choice to portray Snape. Reeves is just too likable to be hated and disliked like Snape is throughout the books. However, this role could be just the change Keanu Reeves needs to further his acting ability and showcase the diversity within his chosen roles.

Benedict Cumberbatch

Benedict Cumberbatch’s ability to portray complex characters with depth and nuance has earned him a reputation as one of the finest actors of his generation and the villainous roles he has played in the past are captivating. While it’s uncertain how Benedict Cumberbatch would interpret Snape’s character, given his acting prowess and striking physical resemblance to the character’s description in the books, it’s easy to see why many fans are excited about the possibility of him playing the role.

Cillian Murphy

Cillian Murphy is known for his chameleon-like ability to transform himself into a wide range of characters, his roles in Peaky Blinders and the upcoming Oppenheimer is a great examples of this. While he has never been officially considered for the role of Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series, it’s not hard to imagine him bringing his intense and brooding presence to the character. With his sharp features, piercing gaze, and ability to convey complex emotions, he would certainly be able to capture the mysterious and conflicted nature of Snape.

Charlie Cox

Charlie Cox is well known for his role as Daredevil in the Netflix series and the MCU, which is why he would be an interesting choice to portray Snape in the Harry Potter series. Charlie Cox could bring his acting skills and unique presence to the role, with his sharp and angular features and ability to convey complex emotions through subtle facial expressions and body language, he could certainly capture the brooding and mysterious nature of Snape.

Johnny Depp

Let’s forget about his role as Grindelwald for a second, Johnny Depp definitely deserves some redemption in the Harry Potter franchise, so why not cast him as Severus Snape? Snape is known for his brooding and mysterious nature, and while Depp has played many characters with similar qualities such as Edward Scissor Hands and any role in Tim Burton’s films, it will always be hard for him to step out of that Grindelwald shadow. Being cast as Snape will be a great first step for Johnny Depp to get his foot into a major franchise and acting in general after his trial.
