Golden Globes Nominations 2023

The Golden Globes Nominations 2023 have been announced. After a few years of controversies and scandals, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) and the Golden Globes continue on.

How were the nominations for 2023? One word really comes to mind and that is safe. There is a complementary mix between independent films and blockbusters so it is enough to satisfy a very broad group of individuals – whether that can translate to a ‘comeback’ for the HFPA or not, we’ll have to see.

Popular in this years nominations were Martin McDonagh and The Banshees of Inisherin who remains a strong candidate with the Globes as his last film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri was nominated for six categories and won four of them. The Banshees of Inisherin and Everything, Everywhere, All At Once leads the pack of films with eight nominations including Best Film – Musical or Comedy. Top Gun: Maverick continues to deeply insert itself inside the Oscar conversation and at this point, it feels inevitable to get that Best Picture nomination. While the race to Best Picture is still early-on, fringe films such as Elvis, Avatar: The Way of Water, Babylon and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery continue to make a strong push to complete the Best Picture category and these nominations support it. Steven Spielberg extends the record for most Best Director nominations at 14 with a new nomination for The Fabelmans. Likewise for John Williams, extending his record for most nominations in the Best Original Score category to 25 nominations; for his work in The Fabelmans.
