Introducing us to new characters, avengers and villains, Phase two of the MCU expands the franchise while planting seeds for the inevitable future. Here is our movie list for the Top Phase Two films.
6. Thor: The Dark World
Quiet easily the worst MCU film made so far, Thor: The Dark World is a complete mess of a film from the narrative, jokes, and its underwhelming villain. The romance between Thor and Jane Foster is just as bad in the sequel as it was in the first film. Loki is the only highlight in this film as he steals every scene he is in.
5. Iron Man 3
We see Iron Man deal with PTSD from the events that occurred during The Avengers. While Iron Man 3 isn’t as terrible as it seems, its infamous plot twist of The Mandarin does make this film a little underwhelming.
4. Ant-Man
Full of heart and charm Ant-Man introduces us to Scott Lang and diverts from having Hank Pym as the titular hero but more as a mentor. Ant-Man is a thoroughly enjoyable film and a fitting first film for this character. most of the humour sticks however the villain Yellowjacket falls into the standard underwhelming MCU villain category.
3. Avengers: Age of Ultron
It didn’t quite reach the heights of the first film, Avengers: Age of Ultron introduces us to new Avengers as they have to deal with Ultron. Ultron is a fine villain but I can’t help but feel the script didn’t allow the character to reach his full potential.
2. Guardians of the Galaxy
Who would have thought that a team of C-List superheroes would end up becoming one of the best MCU films in the franchise and spawning two new sequels and specials. James Gunn delivered us with a fantastic film, full of laughs, surprises, and an awesome soundtrack.
1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Grounded and gritty more than the first film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier raises the stakes for Captain America and S.H.I.E.L.D. as Hydra is recreated and seeks to change the world. Let’s not forget the intense fight scenes and personal story beats between Captain America and The Winter Soldier AKA Buck Barnes.
