It’s nice that our 2023 Oscars Predictions will have a sense of normalcy, following, what has been a devastating blow that was dealt to the industry by Covid-19 in 2020. From box office hits to critically acclaimed indies among the 10 Best Picture nominees, this very well could be a turning point in the recovery of the Academy Awards. Let’s hope it stays that way!
Box Office Behemoths – Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar: The Way of Water really showed the beating heart of the film industry. Both grossing a mass amount of money for a film that didn’t have superheroes or lightsabers in it. They have played a significant role in recovering the film industry and their impact can’t be understated, they deserve their nominations.
This year’s nominees offer a chance for audiences to root for their favourites and help revive the industry. The nominations across the categories, specifically, the best picture category is very diverse while being respectable nominations. While only one streamer, Netflix, made the list with All Quiet on the Western Front, it has gained momentum and could be Netflix’s first Best Picture winner – where it has always been slightly bested. Despite the huge support within the awards circuit, it looks like that will be the case again as Everything Everywhere All at Once is going for a major sweep from Picture to Screenplay to Actress.
Although, the acting races are tight, with major wins in precursor ceremonies with Austin Butler and Brendan Fraser battling tooth and nail in the Best Actor category. The Best Actress race is also turning out to be a nail-biter, with Michelle Yeoh closing in on Cate Blanchett, who was thought to be frontrunner until Yeoh gained major momentum. The technical categories are still unclear so they are worthy to keep an eye on as well.
In my final predictions for all 23 categories, I believe this will be a fascinating year for the Oscars and particularly the implications for the future of the ceremony. While I have been following the Awards Circuit and usually do well in my predictions for the Oscars – please don’t blame me if you luck out with your mates! Here are my final 2023 Oscars Predictions:
