Nayan:
So James What were your just overall thoughts?
James:
Well, I’ve only seen Scream V and I really liked it. You know, we’re talking about it before the movie how it was meta and all this kind of stuff and just played around with you know, tropes of the horror genre and film industry as a whole. I think this movie, Scream VI, really does elevate everything that Scream V did right. I would say it’s better, not monumentally or anything, but I think it does more here. I think it honours the legacy of Scream. I think it plays into what the franchise really does well, and you know, just the way it depicts Ghostface and the storylines coming together and the underlying thematics of the film just, you know, bleeding to the surface I thought was just really well done. I think some of the parts where the series can improve on are more on the performances of the film. Besides that, I just want Scream to keep running like this. I think it’s really great. It always leaves me guessing and I just couldn’t predict the thing in this movie as it plays with the audience’s mind really, really well. Yeah. What were your thoughts on it?
Nayan:
Yeah, I enjoyed it. I mean, again, I watched Scream V two days ago. Yeah. And then I watched this one now and I just really like it. Pretty much as you said, I enjoyed the neatness of how like, it makes fun of franchises and sequels including the whole movie industry it’s just pretty much on the nose and I think why it’s so funny is because of how on the nose it is. It is a lot more intense than I thought it would be. Like I wasn’t expecting it to be that tense. Yeah, like obviously it’s obvious what’s going to happen but just the way they build up to those kills all those, fake-out moments and stuff that are done very well. What did you think of the story?
James:
I thought it was good. I think it continues what the fifth one did and uh, well, in a way that’s compelling. In a way that doesn’t feel forced just to get another sequel, and any shred of inkling where you’re like “Oh, they’re just doing this for the cash grab”. It kind of plays into that with its meta-ness and how it calls itself a requel and it’s a franchise now and all that kind of stuff. I think it plays with it really well and includes it as part of the plot rather than just a comedy piece so yeah, I thought it was done really well. Like I said before, it’s quite tense when it needs to be and it’s funny where it needs to be. It’s just a really well-balanced horror movie. You’ve only seen Scream V – how would you compare them in terms of story?
Nayan:
I think it’s more it’s very similar. It’s pretty much a very similar sort of story just a different location. Yeah, pretty much the same dynamic, you know, with a group of friends, Sam Carpenter and Tara, which just pretty much continues on from their story.
James:
I think having it set in New York really allows for something quite creative in terms of like, you know, the killings and the tenseness of it and stuff. It makes it really inventive with the way it portrays a lot of what happens in the movie. I like that change of pace in terms of the location.
Nayan:
I didn’t, it was very similarly done like it was just mainly, it was set in an apartment and we saw another one with houses. Which is kinda what we saw in the last movie with the house party. I think the only creative thing would probably be the opening scene really.
James:
I mean, there was an amazing scene that I loved on the train.
Nayan:
Oh, yes, that’s true
James:
Yeah. But as I said before at the start, I think the performances need or they could be better. I’m not saying they’re bad at all. I think they are good and they fit into their role a bit better than Scream V. I thought they were quite, quite weak in that movie. I think they’re kind of just more comfortable in the character. So I think it’s just more of the emotional moments. They’re quite high-intensity moments with you know, the main group of characters, I think it is quite not that compelling. I think they could do a little bit better. Outside actors in terms of like, Courtney Cox, yeah, I don’t think she really has much of an acting ability in general anymore but you know, the supporting cast besides that, yeah, they were just fine to me. Yeah.
Nayan:
So just very mediocre.
James:
What about you?
Nayan:
Nothing really stood out except, yeah. Melissa Berra. I think she just showed a bit more emotion than she did in the fifth one. Yeah. So that was like a good improvement from her. Like her like dealing with that conflict that her dad was pretty much the first Ghostface and her trying not to live up to his legacy. You sort of see that conflict a bit more in her yeah. Pretty much everything else was just the same such as Jenna Ortega was just, you know, just exactly the same. Yeah. So what would your overall score be for this one? Oh,
James:
My score is out of 10? 7.8 out of 10, I really did enjoy this. What would yours be?
Nayan:
Seven out of 10.
