In this weekend’s box-office forecast, we are going to take a look at how “Joy Ride” and “Insidious: The Red Door” will fare at the domestic box office for the upcoming weekend as “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” continues its run. It is going to be a slow weekend for sure but no stress because we will have Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 next weekend!
Insidious: The Red Door

A horror series way past its prime and being milked towards extinction at this point, is there any life in this franchise? Perhaps. The fourth one “Insidious: The Last Key” had a nice bump after the third one despite getting the worst reviews in the series so it demonstrates that there is a market for this movie. Besides “The Boogeyman”, there hasn’t really been a strong showing of horror movies for 2023 so that could raise demand for the Insidious sequel alongside other appeals such as the original cast members returning.
Joy Ride

Likewise to “Insidious: The Red Door”, the comedy genre hasn’t really had a strong showing in 2023 besides Jennifer Lawrence’s “No Hard Feelings”. There may be some demand for a female targeted R-Rated comedy but with Barbie around the corner, does it have the legs for a decent run?. It may be difficult for this movie to find an audience due to competition but word of mouth is key and reviews (96% on Rotten Tomatoes currently) suggest that won’t be an issue.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

This film is still looking like it will be one of the biggest box office bombs of all-time after $130M worldwide opening on a $329M budget last weekend. It currently sits at $83M after the 5-day weekend and despite the B+ CinemaScore, I believe that it will have a favourable drop due to lack of direct competition.
