The month of March has provided a good boost towards the box office with notable franchise releases, so the pressure is on for Shazam! Fury of the Gods to keep the momentum going. Let’s dive into this weekends box office forecast
Things are not looking good for the sequel to the 2019 hit Shazam! Which opened to an impressive $56.8 million at the domestic box office and scored an impressive 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film already has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 55% and the past two films in the DCEU were Black Adam which did open to an impressive $67 million due to the star power of Dwayne Johnson and The Suicide Squad which opened to a mere $26.2 million in its opening weekend.
The marketing for this film has been wildly lackluster, I can honestly say that I have not seen a single billboard, poster, or promotional material on buses for this film. I wouldn’t be surprised if people say they didn’t even know that this film was released this week. If the film had to show a major Justice League character in its TV spot then you know something is wrong.
In regards to family going to movies, you can expect Shazam! Fury of the Gods to have the upper hand here this weekend with its direct competitors being Scream IV and Creed III. However i do expect a significant drop come next week.
After an impressive opening weekend where it recorded a franchise high with $43.5 million you can expect Scream VI to have another big weekend here as well. Its 2022 Predecessor saw a 59.3% drop in its second weeks and we can expect something similar as it’s main competitor will be Shazam! Fury of the Gods due to being a new release. However it shouldn’t take away that much from it’s box office as its positive reactions should keep the films box office ticking.
Weekend Box Office Forecast:
|Shazam! Fury of the Gods||$32,400,000|

|Avatar: The Way of Water||$2,000,000|
