Weekend Box Office Results: Creed III dominates the fight while Ant-Man continues to shrink

Weekend Box Office Results for March 3-5, 2023

Please find the Top 10 Weekend Box Office Results below.

Creed III

The phrase that I used in last week’s box office forecast for the weekend was “Creed III Tracking Towards Franchise High” seems like a massive understatement now. I say this because Creed III just earned the biggest box office opening weekend for a sports film. Boosted by an impressive social media marketing campaign and excellent word of mouth, it held out strong throughout Saturday and Sunday. This suggests that there will be strong legs to come throughout March – albeit, there is some tough competition coming out, especially films that target the male demographic. (See, our John Wick: Chapter 4 forecast). The cinemascore for this was an ‘A-’ which should assist in the long run, even if it got lower than the ‘A’ for Creed and Creed II.

Globally, it debuted with $100 million which is equally as impressive as the domestic debut and should allow the film to pace towards the $300 million mark. Depending on the legs for the film and just how much the upcoming competition impacts the division of the moviegoing audience, it can reach the heights of $175 million domestically and $150 million internationally. Both previous Creed films earned less internationally than the domestic markets – same with the opening weekend so I expect the same in the totals for the film.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Weekend Box Office Results - Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Quantumania continues to collapse far further than a way an MCU has done before. It may not even be a 2x multiplier which would be a first for the MCU but it needs to make below $212M so it will be very close. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania needs to stabilise as soon as possible to have any respectable final box office results. What is more shocking is that this will struggle to reach $500M (!!!) – who knew we would say that for the first film in Phase 5?

Cocaine Beer

Cocaine Beer - Weekend Box Office Results

Surprisingly, Cocaine Beer keeps its high on the box office spectrum as it continues to impress. Usually, I wouldn’t consider a 52.1% an impressive drop on the second weekend, respectable but not impressive. In this instance, for an R-rated comedy thriller that had a higher-than-expected opening weekend – it is fantastic. It looks to get around $65 – 75 million domestic total (unless there is an early streaming release on Peacock).
