Weekend Box Office Results: Dungeons & Dragons Thrives on Excellent Word of Mouth

Dungeons and Dragons Honor Among Thieves Box Office Prediction and Forecast

Weekend Box Office Results for March 31 – April 2, 2023

Please find the Top 10 Weekend Box Office Results below.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

Opening up with a strong $38.5M, which is above industry projections earlier in the month of March. After a successful launch campaign that was headlined by excellent word-of-mouth through critics and early audience screenings. Paramount Pictures will surely be happy with this result. The movie got an A- CinemaScore so it should be able to have a relatively lengthy run – a potential to achieve a x3 multiplier but I would suggest that a x2.5 multiplier is a safer bet.

Internationally, the film opened with $33M with several key markets performing as expected. It debuted fourth in China for a $5M opening weekend so do not expect much of a run in the second largest market. Whilst the domestic debut opened surprisingly high, the international opening weekend doesn’t impress. With a global debut of $71.5M for a film with $151M budget, will not provide much faith for Paramount Pictures moving forward with this franchise.

John Wick: Chapter 4

With a sharper drop than expected (-62%), it will be very interesting to see if it can stabilize moving forward. Currently at a total of $122M domestically and $244M worldwide, it will need to start getting weekly and weekend drops under that 50% mark in order to significantly surpass John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum ($327M).

Perhaps the length of the film does not provide much incentive to re-watch the movie as I have heard runtime concerns from audiences. With light competition in April, there is not much reason to not believe in this movie having a lengthy run.

Other Interesting Box Office News:

  • Scream VI ($98M) on the cusp of being the highest grossing film in the franchise domestically.
  • Shazam! Fury of the Gods drops -49% which is still quite heavy for a third weekend.
